''Tax returns used to be a doddle when every town had very helpful taxmen in local offices who could answer questions and even complete the forms for you, if given the relevant information.
Alas, such taxmen and local offices no longer exist and, unless you have half a day to spare waiting for someone to answer your telephone enquiries, it has become quite impossible to speak to anyone at HMRC about personal tax matters and concerns. Fiscal matters really have become a drag!
Thank goodness, then, for the extremely helpful and very professional staff at Dixon Gibbs in Kendal who go out of their way to navigate and clarify our ghastly tax system. I only wish I had discovered them some years ago and thereby prevented my hair turning grey and falling out!'' Jonathan Ward
